Joan M. Dandurand, age 80, of Bourbonnais, died on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at Presence Merkle-Knipprath Countryside in Clifton.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. Joan’s funeral mass will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery in Irwin.

Joan was born on September 22, 1938 to Herman James Casey and Bernadette J. (Mulcahy) Westover in Kankakee, IL. She married William Dandurand October 3, 1959 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Kankakee, IL. Joan was an LPN, and had worked at Bourbonnais Terrance, and as a psychiatric nurse at Riverside Medical Center. She had also worked at St. Mary’s Hospital as a clerk and in Pastoral Care. For many years she was a school bus driver and crossing guard for Bourbonnais School District. Joan and her husband were two of the co-founders of Bourbonnais Friendship Festival. She was also influential in establishing Harbor House in this area and continued to volunteer there.

Joan was a member of St. Joseph Church in Bradley. She enjoyed cooking, camping, traveling, and playing cards and dice.

Joan is survived by two sons, James (Patti) Dandurand of Bourbonnais, IL and Russell Dandurand of Bourbonnais, IL; one foster son and two foster daughters in law, Larry (Rosie) Bayer of Bradley, IL, Kendra Whitcomb of Wichita, KS; foster daughter, Donna Sandeno of Kentland, IN; one sister, Mary Westover of Kankakee, IL; one brother, Russell Westover of Kankakee; 13 grandchildren, Dawn (Casey) Raymond, Richard (Angel) Hedges, Mary Dandurand, Bernadette Dandurand, Jon (Brittany) Dandurand, Salina Dandurand, Dewey (Brooke) Whitcomb, Theresa Whitcomb, Amber (Calvin) Daughtry, Amanda Bayer, Michael Bayer, Kayleigh Sandeno, Dakota Sandeno; 17 great-grandchildren, Steven, Adam, Daniel, Nathan, Anthony, Radley, Onyx, Shawn, Edward, Emerson, Jackson, Harlow, Christopher, Zyler, Aubree, Aryanna and Gibson. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, Robert Westover; one son, John J. Dandurand; one daughter, Marie Dandurand, foster son, Dewey Whitcomb; and two granddaughters, Autumn Bayer and Evelyn Dandurand.

Memorials may be made to Harbor House or Aunt Martha’s.
