Janice Rae Miller (Knox), 78, of Kankakee, Illinois, and a longtime resident of Bradley, passed away peacefully at her home on February 8, 2026.
Born September 9, 1947, in Springfield, Illinois, Janice was the daughter of the late Harry J. Knox and Alice Marguerite (Mitchell) Knox. She married Jack L. Miller on June 27, 1970, in Momence, Illinois, and they shared 55 devoted years of marriage.
Janice was a longtime member of St. Joseph Church in Bradley and a respected community leader whose work touched countless children and families. She served as Executive Director and Founder of the Merchant Street Art Gallery of Artists with Autism, President of the Community Arts Council, Director of Education to Careers, and Regional Director for the Girl Scouts of America. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, Community Arts Council board member, and docent at the B. Harley Bradley House.
Janice found joy in watercolor painting, sewing, gardening, and interior design, filling her home with color and warmth. She loved good food, cooking with friends, and traveling with her family throughout the United States and abroad, including trips to Ireland and New Zealand.
She is survived by her husband, Jack L. Miller; her sister, Barbara (Miguel) Doctor; her children, Julie (the late Kenneth) Lindner, Jeffrey (Jessica) Miller, and Jay (Ashley) Miller; her grandchildren, Laura (Daniel) Treadwell, Briana Lindner, Josephine Lindner, Scott Miller, Sam Miller, Kenneth Lindner Jr., P.J. Lindner, Eli Miller, and Claire Miller; and great-grandchildren Frederick and Addison Treadwell.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 26, from 3:00–7:00 p.m. at X-Line Sportsman’s Club, Kankakee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 27, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Bradley, with a luncheon to follow.
Janice will be remembered for her faith, creativity, and enduring love for family and community.
