Daniel Babinski

Daniel Charles Babinski, 82, Bradley, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 4 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

Danny was born on Christmas, Dec. 25, 1939, in Detroit, the son of Karol and Aniela (Kocemba) Babinski.

After graduating high school he attended Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mi. before moving to Kankakee. He then went to Marycrest College and worked at A.O. Smith.

He served in the army as a personnel clerk from 1963-65 and then in the army reserve until 1969.

Danny married Rosemary Sue Wheeler on Oct. 29, 1966 at St. Teresa Church in Kankakee. Together they raised a large and loving family. He is survived by Rosemary and five sons, Chuck (Sarah) of Watseka, Casey of Bourbonnais, Andy of Baton Rouge, La., Mikey of Bradley, Steve (Rachel) of Marion, Ind., and one daughter, Anna (Jeff) Welsh of Satellite Beach, Fla. One son, Bob Babinski, was called home to the Lord in 2004.

He is also survived by six grandchildren, Cori, Alizzia, Ben, and Emi Babinski and Izzy and Eli Welsh.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Walter (Bucky), Casimir (Casey), and Francis (Frankie) Babinski and two sisters, Carrie and Walter Hybl and Jeannie and Julius Dybicki.

Danny had worked 41 years for the United States Post Office and took many extra shifts for overtime to provide for his family. On his days off he often ran the counter at the local bowling alleys.

After retiring from the post office he worked part-time at Aspen Ridge Golf Course, as he was an avid golfer. As much as he enjoyed golf, his true passion was bowling. He bowled in leagues most of his life, rolling multiple 300 games, and regularly competing around the country in the national ABCs (American Bowling Congress) tournament.

Danny had many highlights as a spectator as well. In 1992 he watched Steve help the Bradley-Bourbonnais All-Stars win the Pony League World Series in Pennsylvania. He cheered Anna on in 2000 as Olivet competed in the NAIA National Basketball Tournament in Tennessee, and also saw her compete in multiple NAIA National Softball Tournaments.

His proudest moments, however, were later when he watched Steve and Anna, who each coached NAIA softball teams, play against each other.

Danny was very outgoing. He loved doing crossword puzzles, rooting for the Detroit Tigers, and watching westerns.

Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday, Dec. 9 at Schreffler Funeral Home in Kankakee. There will be a mass at 11 AM Saturday, Dec. 10 at St. Joseph Church in Bradley followed by a luncheon at St. Joseph school.

Memorials can be made in Danny’s name to Riverside Miller Healthcare.
