Verle H. Gross, age 87, of Bourbonnais, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Amita St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.
Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2019, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Visitation will also be held 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Herscher United Methodist Church. Rev. Kevin Boesen will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Eldridgeville Cemetery in Bonfield.
Verle was born January 23, 1932 in Buckingham, the son of Earl & Elsie Overwright Gross. He married Betty Lou Harris on May 17, 1953. She preceded him in death on June 18, 1996.
On January 16, 1999 Verle married Patricia M. LeCuyer Schierenbeck. He was a lifelong Buckingham area farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Verle was member of the Board of Directors for the Herscher State Bank for 31 years. A graduate of Herscher High School, Verle ran track. He enjoyed his winters in Bradenton, FL. He loved playing cards, playing shuffleboard, feeding & watching the birds, and he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He loved to travel.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Gross of Bourbonnais; one son, Michael Gross of Chicago; one daughter, Dr. Deborah Gross of Miller Beach, IN; his step-children, Debbie & Jerry Gray of Bourbonnais, Lori & Bob Henson of White, GA, Sue Schierenbeck & Cheryle Strother of Bourbonnais, Heidi Malito & Steve Logan of New Lenox, and Beth & Mark Christopher of Earl Park, IN; one sister, Darlene Hendrix of Buckingham; one grandson, Steven Gross; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nine step-grandchildren; and eleven step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, Verle is preceded in death by his parents; one son & daughter-in-law, David & Mary Gross; and one grandson, Greg Gross.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or the family wishes.
