Joseph “Joe” S. Deno, age 77, of Kankakee passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at his home. 


Visitation will be held from 9-11:45 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kankakee.


Joe was born on April 6, 1946, in Kankakee, the son of Adelor “Freddy” & Grace (Sullivan) Deno. Joe married Jennifer Wulff on October 27, 2001, in Kankakee.


He was a veteran of the United States Army from 1965-1967. For over 30 years, Joe created, owned, and operated ABC Disposal. He could be spotted across town tending to the business and its brown trucks. He felt very fortunate to have built a business that offered jobs to so many over the years. He enjoyed giving back to his community and mentoring others.


He served in various board positions for the Bishop McNamara High School and Bishop McNamara auction over many years and greatly enjoyed making it a successful fundraiser for the school. He served on the board for Catholic Charities.


He loved classic and custom cars and hitting the open road behind the wheel. He created a varied collection over the years and enjoyed sharing them at car shows and events in the area. He could be seen working on his projects in the shop constantly. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with those he loved. He was a member of the 100 Club, Kankakee Country Club, loyal member of the Moose, Kankakee Historical Society, and lifetime member of the Kankakee Railroad Museum.


Surviving are his wife, Jennifer Deno of Kankakee; four sons , Jason (Bethany) Deno of Frankfort, Aaron (Louis) Deno of El Dorado, CA, Zachary (Delanie) Lewis of Coto de Caza, CA, and Andrew & Sydney Lewis of Ballwin, MO; two daughters, Megan (Michael) Schultz of Sycamore and Madelene (Kyle) Burton of Ballwin, MO; one sister, Sheila (Bob) Gifford of Largo, FL; and nine grandchildren, Xander Deno, Logan Deno, Maevie Schultz, Maverick Schultz, Maddox Schultz, Ellavie Deno, Beckman Deno, River Lewis, and Collins Lewis.


Joe is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Shirley Harms and Sharon (Ray) Brown.


Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bishop McNamara Catholic School, or Uplifted Care.
