Intercede For Youth Ministry
First of all, then, I ask that
supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered
for everyone, for kings and for all in authority, that we may
lead a quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity.
This is good and pleasing to God our savior, who wills everyone
to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For
there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and
the human race, Christ Jesus, himself human, who gave himself as
ransom for all. (1 Timothy 2:1-6)
This is a call to all the members of St. Joseph’s parish,
parents of teens, and all faithful Christians to join in doing
intercessory prayer for the needs of Youth Ministry. This is
your chance to really make an impact on the Youth Ministry
program even if you aren’t called to work directly with the
teens.
Intercessory prayer can be defined as the act of asking on
behalf of another or others. Intercessory prayer is about
loving others enough to embrace their needs as one’s own, and on
their behalf, take them to the throne of God. What you are
being asked to do is pray for that which we cannot do ourselves,
and could never deliver: the intercession of an all-loving and
all powerful God. (Basil Pennington quote from Tobin, Eamon.
Prayer: A handbook for today’s Catholic. 72.)
Where to start with intercessory prayer, simply ask God to pour
upon us a “spirit of grace and supplication.”
A simple prayer for this is: God help us pray! Give us the
desire and ability to pray. Provide for us the grace to
earnestly pray in behalf of the youth of our community.
Help motivate us to fervently pray our vision for our teens
into reality. Amen.
Thank you for being an important part of Youth Ministry!
